A review of all the VPNs I’ve used

Mullvad

I found mullvad to be one of the best VPNs I have used thanks to its feature packed app and a pretty good Linux client. It has unlimited data, decent speeds and multihop at a very fair price of about £4.20. I was also impressed by the massive focus on privacy and it has a very good track record. Its so privacy focused you don’t need an email or anything to sign up. It also has many ways to pay including cash (when I last used it). Also has a decent Linux client.

However I came across some very annoying things. I was frequently blocked from websites like reddit. This was massively annoying as I do not have a reddit account so I had to switch off the VPN before accessing certain websites. I also had a problem with the very low device cap. 5 devices just isn’t enough for me. Mullvad also does not have a app for a firestick which is disappointing. It also is no good for streaming.

Proton Free

Very good free VPN. Its hard to complain when something is free. It has decent speeds, good encryption and unlimited data and no sign up required. Nothing much I can really say as it is quite basic.

The downsides are quite big depending on your use case. For example you do not get access to p2p networking and you won’t be able to use many streaming services. You also don’t get access to any DNS filters like you do in mullvad and windscribe or protons paid plan.

Proton Paid

Very expensive at nearly £10 a month. You get similar features to mullvad with the addition of a VPN accelerator. You also get access to streaming sites and p2p networking.

My only major downsides I can find is the price. You also only get 10 devices I didn’t hit that device limit but at this high of a price I can’t believe it isn’t unlimited devices like windscribe. Both plans have a horrific Linux client.

Windscribe

Im genuinely surprised at the price of £2.99 (custom plan without access to all servers). You get unlimited data and unlimited devices. Superb privacy features including GPS spoofing and decoy traffic. You get p2p networking and streaming service unblocking (I hear lots of mixed things about it however). Personally the amount of servers is not a selling point to me but it might be for you. You also get access to DNS blocking. And has a decent Linux client.

Now on to the downsides. No multihop !! If I’m honest that’s about it from what I can tell. I haven’t had a single issue since using it I’ll update this section if I can find any apart from no multihop.

My recommendation

For basic use I absolutely recommended proton free tier for anything more I recommend windscribe due to its very low price and good track record. If you need multihop and most privacy I recommend mullvad.

My overall winner though has to be windscribe.

Please please please if I have got anything wrong please inform me in the comments. I have tried to be as thorough as I can and I’m new to this review stuff. I try to be as unbias as possible. So tell me in the comments if I need to make corrections or add stuff.
